Birthstone quilts with the Facets pattern
Share
Have you ever thought about making a birthstone quilt? The Facets quilt pattern is perfect for that!
It would make a wonderful gift for a new baby, or as a family quilt with different gemstones representing the members of a family. I can see this working in so many lovely ways, for blended families, or as a gift for grandparents with a gemstone representing every grandchild, a wedding gift... whether you use multiple different colours for the gems, or a single colour for a special person, your options are just about endless.
These two tester quilts by Sydney (twin size, above) and Colleen (baby size, below) both use multiple colours for the gemstones, following the pillow instructions in the pattern to determine how much fabric is needed of each colour.
I've listed 9 colour combinations below, using Kona solids, that correspond to the various birthstones. A few colours are too close to make a truly different kit (such as garnet and ruby), so they are lumped together, while some others are more difficult to represent, like the pearl.
But, these colour sets should make every month possible. I've used Kona solids here because they have the biggest variety of colours available, and are my go-to solid. Of course, other solids brands will work just as well. If you make a birthstone quilt using one of the other brands, I'd love it if you let me know which brand and colours you used, and I will update the blog post to include it. You can comment on this post, tag me on Instagram, or send me an email.
So, without further ado, here are my Kona colour picks:
