Ripple & Swirl - the nautical Swirl version

Today I have a super fun and quick pattern to show you! Ripple & Swirl is a two-in-one modern quilt pattern perfect for beginners and those who want to polish their skills with HSTs and colour value.

It's part of the HST series of patterns (the other patterns are Facets and Polar Peaks, which is available as a free download when you sign up for my newsletter) and is a simple design with a lot of impact. It plays with value and layouts and takes the humble half-square triangle to new heights.

Contrast and colour value are what make this pattern shine. Play with different colours, choose a main colour and a neutral background like low volume, black or white, or simply pick light and dark versions of the same colour and watch the design transform. 

This is a great stash buster pattern with fat quarter friendly sizes (baby and throw) and it plays really well with scraps, too. It offers two layout options, the Ripple and the Swirl, and comes in 5 sizes. It’s available in my pattern shop.

For this navy and red nautical Swirl I used all fabrics from my stash. Even the cute anchor backing was lurking in my fabric cubbies just waiting for this moment. This is the baby size - wouldn’t it make a perfect gift for a special little sailor?

In this version, the contrast is achieved simply by using two different colours.
