February 2026 Colour Inspiration

February is a funny month. It feels short, because it is, but also because January feels rather long. In my corner of Canada, spring is still a fair piece away but it doesn't feel as "deep winter" anymore as December and January did. And it's almost time for maple syrup!

This month's inspiration is neither winter nor maple syrup though. I wanted to do something a little Valentine's Day inspired, but not too "pink hearts everywhere", so this inspiration image was perfect. I love the addition of the brown and gold to the pink colour scheme, which really added a fun extra to the mockups.

Fabric swatches for February 2026

Having colours on the screen as inspiration is one thing, but as quilters we need to be able to find them in fabric collections as well. I'm using the QuiltySolid app to put together fabric collections of some common solids brands.

  • Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton: Pearl Pink, Primrose, Pink Flamingo, Suede, Straw
  • Northcott Colorworks: Ballet Slipper, Make Me Blush, Coral, Coffee Bean, Cafe O Lait
  • Moda Bella Solids: Baby Pink, Pink, 30's Pink, Weathered Teak, Latte
  • Art Gallery Pure Solids: Ethereal Pink, Quartz Pink, Miami Sunset, Potter's Clay, Georgia Peach
  • HEX codes, to look up other brands: #f6e1e6, #f2a9ad, #ec7173, #8f6f61, #c5a268

Always check these in person, though. The app gives the closest colours by hue, saturation, and value, to the HEX code entered, but they may not look quite right together in person. Substituting a different shade for one of the fabrics might work better.

Mockups of real quilt patterns

After doing quite a few mockups, I felt like I was using the same few quilts all the time, so today I'm branching out a little.
First up is Chasing Rainbows, which also works as a decidedly not-a-rainbow quilt. I moved the colours around quite a bit before settling on this arrangement, and there were a few other contenders that would have worked quite nicely as well.
I'm also trying to incorporate more of my block patterns into these mockups, because I often forget what they look like when put together as a quilt. So I tried this colour scheme with my Kitchen Tile block, which is a little unassuming when you look at it just as a single block, but it really shines when you put multiple blocks together.
It's pretty on its own, but this is what really has me wanting to make the quilt.
And lastly, I couldn't do a February colour inspiration without a least one heart quilt. Dancing Hearts got the honours, and I added a couple of extra fabrics in to fill out the fabric requirements. There's an extra shade of gold/yellow to make up the hearts, and the whole thing is on a white background. I just love how this quilt always glows.

What do you think, will you try out this colour combination on one of your next quilts? Or maybe it has given you an idea for a combination that you want to try out. And if you're not quite ready to commit to it, you can always pin any of the images here to your own inspiration board.
